Outstanding Students Awards

Now Accepting Nominations!

The Texas Parents Outstanding Student Award has been presented annually since it was established in 1951. Texas Parents proudly honors accomplished young men and women who achieve distinction through superior scholarship, character and service. The annual Outstanding Student Awards are only awarded to graduating seniors who symbolize the talents and efforts of hundreds of outstanding student leaders on campus. Each year, four Outstanding Student Finalists and two Outstanding Students, one male and one female, are selected. Award winners and their nominators are invited to the Celebration of Leadership Dinner, which will be held this year on Friday, October 29, 2010.

Nomination Instructions

Only graduating seniors may be nominated for the Outstanding Student Award by UT faculty, staff or students. Please have the student you are nominating for this award download and complete the form attached below. This form along with a letter of recommendation (multiple letters of recommendation will be accepted), should be submitted via email (amandagamble@mail.utexas.edu), no later than midnight, September 15, 2010. Be sure to save any attached documents with the first and last name of your nominee. The subject line of your email should read as follows: “Outstanding Student Award Nomination, First and Last Name of Nominee”. In addition to the completed form and a letter of recommendation, nominations often include the student’s resume, personal statement and/or any other information that may be applicable. Questions may be directed to Amanda Gamble at amandagamble@mail.utexas.edu.

Mike Wacker Award

Now Accepting Nominations!

The Mike Wacker Award has become a symbol of courage and perseverance for students who face extreme adversity. Mike Wacker is a UT graduate and former Longhorn basketball player who overcame a devastating knee injury. An accident left him unable to walk, but through perseverence and hard work, Mike made a miraculous full-recovery. This award recognizes students, like Mike, who give their best and exemplify personal sacrifice, dedication, esteem, conviction and faith. It has become a symbol of courage and perseverance for students who face extreme adversity, and is presented only when truly extraordinary students are nominated. Award winners and their nominators are invited to the Celebration of Leadership Dinner, which will be held this year on Friday, October 29, 2010.

Staff Merit Award

Now Accepting Nominations!

Texas Parents sponsors this annual award to recognize outstanding staff members within the Division of Student Affairs. Award recipients demonstrate exceptional commitment to the welfare of UT Austin students, through actions that positively and constructively address student issues and concerns. UT faculty, staff or students may nominate an employee from any department within the Division of Student Affairs. These staff members are honored at the Celebration of Leadership Dinner on October 29, 2010.

Nomination Instructions

UT faculty, staff or students may nominate an employee from any department within the Division of Student Affairs (Sanger Learning and Career Center, Counseling & Mental Health Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Division of Housing & Food Service, Division of Recreational Sports, Office of the Registrar, Office of Student Financial Services, Texas Student Media, University Unions, University Health Services, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs). Please submit this completed form, along with a letter of recommendation addressing your experience with your nominee, how your nominee has demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of UT Austin students and what distinguishes your nominee in the Division of Student Affairs via email (amandagamble@mail.utexas.edu), no later than midnight, September 15, 2010. Multiple nomination letters will be accepted. Be sure to save any attached documents with the first and last name of your nominee.
